I love those moments in life when you feel the beginning of change. I heard birds outside of my window this morning and looked outside to see my strawberry plant blooming! Yippee …

Scotland was amazing: it reminded me of Maine and Montana put together:) The sea tickled the base of the 3000 m lovely shaped mountain ranges plus there was not a cloud in the sky for the whole weekend. I drank some great whiskey’s and didn’t miss the hustle and bustle of the city one bit.

But alas I am back and making the most of it. Went to see the Boss last night and had an amazing time, Baby I was Born to Run!

Felt like speaking more on a personal note tonight and not as much about the ‘business’ of photography. With having a paying creative type job for once in my life, I find myself taking myself not as seriously and trying to do what I feel feels right. For instance, I bought some pink spray paint and gave ‘lil buddy’ (my bike) a new look:)

Not that I am photographing any less and posted above are a few of my most recent shots …

I reread through all of my posts and am glad I am doing them. They definitely capture a sense of place and what is happening in my life throughout the days, which too quickly become the years.

Will try and write again sooner than later and maybe a bit more about my photography next time!

Until next time-

Hello All-

The job at PYMCA (Photographic Youth Music Culture Archive) has already been a good learning experience and seems to make the time fly by. I can’t believe it’s already late April! For those of you who don’t know, PYMCA is an archive that hosts cultural-based images from the past 40 years as well as exhibits work in gallery spaces all over London. The show we recently hosted just ended so I should have a bit more time to get comfortable in the office and will keep in touch about the news and goods about the move.

I am continuing to shoot work for Red Cover and am getting work accepted on a monthly basis. I have also submit work to Jupiter Images (another US based stock agency) for representation since I think it will be a good way to keep motivated and shooting. I am going to work on an urban abstraction project as well, which I might put on my website (it is still in the process of getting updated with more architectural work and maybe some food if I feel I get a whole portfolio’s worth and will let you know when finished).

I am still working on the picture research course and am actually looking into taking a few classes at Central Saint Martin’s or one of London’s many fine educational establishments.  There are a few architectural classes as well as a studio still life one which look promising and could possibly get some assisting work on the side.

For your viewing pleasure, I attached a few examples of some classic pictures of London as well as some bits from around good ole England.  I am heading to Scotland in a couple weeks and will write again with new pictures from the Isle of Skye.

I have bought a beauty of a bicycle and am enjoying cruising around the city.  The light here is actually quite nice and inspiring when it’s not raining: April showers will hopefully bring May flowers!

Like usual, I hope this finds you well and enjoying the Spring.

All the best- Jolene

Cheerio!

I am back in London after a wonderful visit home for the holidays. After my birthday, Christmas and the New Year as well as a ski vacation with my family and a trip to Costa Rica, I am feeling recharged by play and ready to work! With that said I have pretty much hit ground running and feel like a proper Londoner.

Most of my favorite flower photographs are now being licensed through The Image Barn photo library (theimagebarn.co.uk). I am looking forward to the collaboration and interested to see how the Stock world works. Along the same lines, Red Cover- the other agency I am licensing a select number of photographs to- will market, print and frame my botanical imagery. They are currently processing the photographs they have hand picked. I will keep you posted as to when that launch takes place.

I am also looking forward to the year with PYMCA. I will be in charge of marketing and sales of their new subscription-based photo archive. Hopefully I will be able to strike a balance with working for hire as well as continuing to pursue my own endeavors. It is exciting to be involved with a great group of people who are inspired by unique photography. Above all, I am thankful for the opportunity to learn more about the photography world here as there seems to be no end …

And last but definitely not least, I included a few recent shots I have taken on my travels as well as one from the PYMCA gallery. For my next blog, I will include a few of my favorite London-based photos. Until then I hope this finds you all well! Thanks for your time- Jolene

Hohohello All-

Things are winding up and down here in the land of Jolene Adams Photography-ville. I had a very successful meeting with a picture library (redcover.com) who are going to represent my flower work. The picture library is starting a print company specializing in botanical framed prints and are as excited as I am to start the working relationship. I couldn’t believe my ears when they said all I needed to do was shoot macro flowers of all description and send them in. It was a true affirmation to follow what you know feels right even if that means shooting not much else but flowers for over two years! I am also working with a Royalty Free site (theimagebarn.co.uk) that wants to represent the rest of my work, which is great to have a place for people to view and buy my photographs for all sorts of purposes (books, publications, etc) as opposed to my pictures just living in the virtual world. I will let you know the details when my work launches on both sites.

After the good news I headed to the biggest (and I believe oldest but don’t quote me on that) National Park in England. It was absolutely beautiful. I hiked the highest mountain in the park (a whopping 950 meters) and took a bunch of pictures. I returned to London just to repack and take off to visit my best friend in Italy. It was a neat experience because although I had been to Italy before it was mostly a touring trip, and this time around, I felt like I was living in Turin which doesn’t feel touristy at all. I enjoyed photographing my trip (a few of which I started the blog with), had fun interacting with the mostly friendly Italians and ate plenty of pizza, cheese, pasta and pepperoni (plus a little frizzante= bubbly wine:).

Speaking of food I am doing an overhaul of my website with a commercial section in which a portfolio of food images will be able to view. I am going to the markets here in London as well and am paying particular attention to what my meals look like in case they are worthy of a photograph:) I was studying a few cookbooks and feel my style will work well with this genre.

Life at PYMCA finished the year off nicely with a fun Christmas party and a full time job offer! I am excited because it is in the photography business first off, with a steady paycheck (in pounds nonetheless) with good people as well as a good induction to various things photographic: picture libraries, contacts and getting a feel for the business here. My (new) boss also offered to get me a work visa so although I am going to try to get one based on my business first, if that doesn’t work out, I can live in this ridiculously expensive- but great- city and work, which is a huge relief.

One other bit of good news is my Clover flower has been accepted in a Macro World themed gallery show sponsored by the Center for Fine Art Photography (c4fap.org). The show starts February 29th and runs until March 22nd. I am a member of the Center and often read about their contests and was thrilled to have my work accepted in the one I felt was most appropriate for me.

Last but not least, I wanted to mention that I am still able to make prints for gifts this holiday season. Let me know before Dec. 21st (preferably before Dec. 17th because I can print them in London and bring them home to mat and mail) if you are interested!

I am looking forward to going home and shooting a few of my dad’s beautiful homes and continuing to shoot flowers for Red Cover as well as work on uploading my images for The Image Barn.

Will write again in the New Year, and until then, I hope everyone has a peaceful and happy holiday season. Thanks for your time!

Jolene

Fall Color at Kew Gardens Fall Color at Kew Gardens

My favorite picture of the day (out of about ~100 that I took of the same tree)! My favorite picture of the day (out of ~100 I took of the same tree)!

Hello All-

Here’s to my first blog (thanks Mo for the good idea) … I thought it would be a good way to show new images as well as share experiences from my new world.

I am three weeks into my work experience at the PYMCA gallery and am really enjoying my time there. I feel it is a good community of people and feel fortunate to be there (although there are a lot of opportunities in London, there are also a lot of people)!

I have been assisting a London based portrait photographer as well. The situation is pretty much the exact opposite of what I am comfortable shooting, which has provided a rich environment for fast paced learning. I still feel nervous before each shoot because there is so much I don’t know, but the one thing I do know is that after each successful experience I become a little more confident in my ability to do a good job.

As for my own photographic pursuits, I submersed myself in the most natural thing in London and shot fall color at Kew Gardens. I attached a few photos for your viewing pleasure. I also printed new business cards that are double sided with an image on the back and the contact information on the front. I have updated my website with new images from the past couple months and am looking into greeting card companies based in Europe as well as licensing my Bloom portfolio.

Since my surroundings are completely different, I have been going through some growing pains, artistically speaking. I have been surrounding myself by some of the greatest art ever made, which has challenged me to continue to become the best photographer I can be. I feel inspired to photograph but in a much different way: instead of shooting the wonder of nature, considering I am no longer in the thrust of it, I am going to try and capture what I feel now living in a huge metropolis. After realizing that my most creative and poignant work comes from my heart and is directly connected to my feelings, I am going to work on making new imagery that hopefully communicates all of the myriad of emotions I have felt since making the big move.

I am continually thinking about creating new images and how to make them and who would appreciate them. I am working on a food portfolio and am hoping to visit a best friend in Italy where I know would be a beautiful place to start a new body of work.

And last but not least, I am taking a long distance learning course in picture research and will keep in touch on how things are going. I am reapplying for a Visa and will hopefully be returning to London after the holidays. Although I am quite far way away from where I have ever been, I still feel connected to myself and those who have helped me become that person so thanks to all of you! I will write again after I feel like I have some new, good imagery to share.

Hope this finds you well and my journey reminds you to keep on rocking in the free world- Jolene
